Anycubic Kossel Mini Upgrades

I picked up an Anycubic Kossel Mini ‘Upgraded Pulley Version’ in Gearbest’s Black Friday sale. On the one hand because I have a problem, but also because I love watching Deltas print.

Out of the box it went together reasonably well, but the prints it put out were only reasonable in quality, I think in large part because the ‘Upgraded’ pulleys have a lot of play. Rather than have something under continual construction like the X5S was/is I wanted to plan (novel) what I was doing and hopefully have something I’m happy with permanently at the end of the day.

My objectives are to get something I can reliably throw out small parts on quickly, in either PETG or PLA. So my planned upgrades are, in no particular order:

  • Upgrade the Trucks
  • Move to a flying extruder
  • Change the mainboard to MKS Sbase with Marlin 2.0 (This may end up being an Einsy with Klipper later).
  • Add some form of bed sensing, probably underbed Piezos
  • Add a heated build platform (and upgrade the PSU).

In short, your typical chinese printer story, but it cheap and spend as much again on upgrades. Fortunately I got it so cheap ($170) that even the limited amount of stuff that’s getting reused (Extrusion, steppers, corners, hardware) was lower than sourcing it directly anyway.

I’ll be updating this post as I go with details of what I’m doing on the off chance anyone is interested.
